GREETINGS

Dear fellow Salt and Light of Connect,

GREETINGS

Even as Spidey 3, Caribbean Pirates and GSS (Great Sg Sale) hit the town this week, we pray that you have enough space and time to sit down and have a chat with the Lord, and let His Word renew your minds and quiet your hearts. Sometimes, the hustle and bustle of life can be so loud that we forget to turn it down and rest upon the eternal Rock of our salvation.

“For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.” Exodus 20:11

THANKSGIVING & PRAYER

We thank God for Mr David Chan (the speaker) and Shihui, who joined us last Friday. May the Lord bless you as you have blessed us by your presence, fellowship and friendship!

We also thank God for the wonderful effort by the youths and leaders on Family Day last Sunday. May the Lord multiply your good works bringing much joy and love to the families and lives touched by the heartwarming event.

Last Sunday (20 May) was Kaijie’s birthday too! Happy Birthday and may His grace and power bless you richly in the year ahead!

Lastly, here’s a gentle reminder that this coming Sunday (27th May) is Global Day of Prayer, do confirm with Glenn if you need transportation from church on that day. May you gather with God’s intercessors, to bless and be blessed.

CONNECT SHARING

Mr David Chan shared on “Workplace Evangelism” last Connect meeting. He started off with two real-life “horror stories” on how Christians can remain in anonymity and appear more problematic than their non-Christians counterparts at the workplace.  These were, of course, rather hilarious at first, but at second thought, we were sobered by its reality.

David reminded us that not only is the workplace (or “studyplace") where we commit over 60% of our waking hours to be in, it is also where some of our most important relationships are formed. This is where we impact lives and make things count for God and the good of His creation.

So what are we called to do? To be who we are! To be Christians! Whether we feel like it or not, Jesus said, we as the followers of Christ, are the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-14). The question is whether we do our part to stay salty (by not conforming to worldly values) and try not to hide under the bucket, but let Christ shine through us.

God has not made us responsible for the whole world, but we are given the stewardship of influence in the specific relationships and communities He chooses to place us. As a leader of ‘Workplace Alpha’, David took pride in the work of Christ which as sustained every workplace alpha team (there are currently over 300 in the world) started (except for one which was stopped by their Mormon boss, only to be revived in the company beside them, extending the evangelistic outreach to another population of workers!). With this he urges us to have Christ’s heart, which is ever so tender for the lost; be mindful of our witness in each God-given relationship; and lastly, love people and use things, NOT the other way round!
