Building Project Update

The revised design will be submitted to URA soon for final approval, after securing approvals from National Parks and LTA. We are still keeping to schedule and aiming for reconstruction to start in early 2009.

During the construction period, we will be worshipping at the Kindergarden (SJCK) assembly hall at Harding Road. Super Powerkids services will also be held there and this should be an opportunity to strengthen the links between SJCK and SPK. We have already started discussing with St George’s Church (near SJCK) regarding their assistance in office space and whether we can use their facilities for our JYM acitvities on Sunday afternooons.

Meanwhile, we are continuing to finetune the space and design in the new facilities. As for the “Plaza” area on the first floor (or ground floor), we are making plans for a kitchen, café and if possible, a resource center or bookshop. This area needs to be planned carefully to allow for a community space which is welcoming to our guests, friends and parents of our SJCK children. We do expect community actitivities like Alpha dinners, community outreach and creative arts events to be hosted in this area. As one can imagine, many varied types of events can be hosted in this area, along with the 400-seater Sanctuary on the same floor.

The Sky Terrace on the second floor is of course a great area for small groups to meet or quieter acitivities. There is a prayer chapel located there which is open for individuals to pray and for prayer meetings.

The offices, main Sanctuary, Seminar/Meeting rooms, prayer/counselling rooms and the third chapel (for youth acitvities) are all housed at the third floor. Details are still being finetuned on these spaces.

As for the roof deck, we do not have plans currently to use this place actively. We hope to reinforce the roof in such a way that another storey can be added on in future if that is needed and possible.

One thing which we are constantly aware of is the needs of the elderly. The current slope at the carpark and the stairs to climb all pose a hindrance to our seniors. We are aware and ask for patience as we plan for bettter facilities for them.

In due course, the architect will be providing some drawings and close-ups so that we can better visualise these spaces. Feedback is of course welcomed.

Do continue to pray for His favour and wisdom upon all who are involved.
