We welcome Glenn Lim as he shares from the pulpit this morning. He joined our staff team as Director of St James’ Community Services on the 1st of July 2008. Allow me to share a bit more about him so that you get to know him a bit better and as a community; find ways to support all that the Lord has laid in his heart.
As a young rock musician, he came close to a life sentence for importing drugs. Thankful for his second chance, he has made good and has since served as a youth counselor, trainer and inspiring youths to turn from a self-destructive life to one which is purposeful, where God is glorified and the wider community is blessed. His story is told in his book, “Wake up Call” and an officially commissioned short film, “Green Grass.”
Glenn has been recognized for his efforts in youth outreach through his diverse music, creative and training platforms, working closely with many government and community agencies. He serves as the Youth Ambassador for Singapore. In 2005 he won the ‘Singapore Youth Award’, Singapore’s highest youth accolade. In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious ‘ASEAN Youth Award’ and in 2007, the distinguished ‘Outstanding Young Person of the World 2007’ Award in Turkey.
Glenn also served as a full time pastoral staff for 10 years at Church of our Saviour. About a year ago, he moved on to take up a Masters in Counseling Psychology and has sought for a new platform to serve the wider community. Being a resident of Holland Village, his vision to serve the Buona Vista community became fused with our Crossroad Vision here in SJC and as a result, St James’ Community Services was formed.
Glenn is also helping SJC to build up her Counselling and Family Life ministry. He continues his passion to help youths find a personal life breakthrough and a positive fulfilling role of service and blessing to those around them. He is also currently serving as one of the advisers on our Diocesan Youth Board.
Glenn is married to SueLynn. Do continue to welcome them, pray and serve with them that together, our church will hear the wake up call to be salt and light, make an impactful difference to individual lives and society.
